Filming

here is a link to our final film.

http://vimeo.com/21480713

Adding music

To add the music onto our film we first extracted the natural audio which we had recorded whilst filming, we then added the music and edited the music to suit each scene

Editing

When editing our film we decided not to confuse people and make the flashbacks black and white, We have also decided to add a voice over, this is because we did not want our film to seem like a music video, the voiceovers will be the thoughts running through the mans head while he is remembering the flashbacks also when he finally decides to get revenge.

Screen tests

here is a ink to our video on vimeo:

Changes

Because we decided that we would film with us in the film, we changed the story slightly because there was only one man in the film.
Therefore during the film the man will have several flashbacks of when his girlfriend was hitting him and punching him. Then finally he just cracks. thats when you see him get revenge.

He has uploaded the magazine review

Poster

here is our poster:
There were 3 different poster ideas. however after we asked around the majority of people decided that this poster was the best one. Therefore this is the poster we have chosen.

Actors

The problem we had with filming is arranging a suitable time for all of the actors. this means there were times when we only had one or two instead of 4. We had filmed most scenes, but then the main actor of our film was un able to film any more. We realised that we had less time to finish our short film therefore we decided that we would be in the film instead of the actors. This meant filming was quicker as we knew what we wanted each other to do.

Why we changed our genre

We researched futher into the genre of our film. and after discussing it with our teacher we decided that we should change the genre. We thought it would be better if it would be a black comedy because we wanted to show voilence however the way we had planned our film would make the violence more laughable then serious. Therefore we thought black comedy would be more suitable.

Poster sizes

Movie Poster Sizes
The standard is the one sheet (27 x 41 inches). There are also posters available in 8 x 10 inches. These are often used for promotion and showcasing in the lobby. The lobby card (LC) measures 11 x 14 inches.

No longer available in the US, they used to come in eights. One card featured the film credits and the rest artwork featuring scenes from the film.

One of the most popular is the ½ sheet. These measure 22 x 28 inches. It’s set on card stock. The billboard size measures 106 x 234 inches. These are set up along roadside billboards.

Other movie posters include the 6 sheet (81 x 81 inches), the three sheet (41 x 81), and the banner (81 x 24). There is also the mini window (11 x 14), the insert (14 x 36) and the lenticular (27 x 41).

The poster sizes mentioned here are standards but don’t be surprised if other dimensions start to get used. These posters have become very popular and effective as marketing tools. So expect them to be harnessed in different ways.

The Small Size
The smallest is 11 x 17”. This is slightly bigger than legal paper (8.5 x 14”). This size is also beyond the capability of ordinary desktop printers. These types of posters aren’t that expensive. They can also be used effectively indoors or if space is restricted.

They are large enough to command attention. These sizes work well when used on phone booths and community boards. This poster type works best if text use is limited. This poster size is excellent for placing ads regarding announcements.

Medium Size
Dimensions of this one come in at 18 x 24”. It’s the standard size of indoor posters. If you shop around for posters of celebrities, they’ll likely come in this size. This can be used effectively with large graphics and one headline message. You can also place some text below the main heading text.

These poster dimensions are used in doctor’s offices. These sizes are also used in oil changing shops or in areas where pedestrians can read them.

Large Size
They measure 24 x 36” or 27 x 39”. These are almost always used in the outdoors. If you’re going to utilize this poster size, use only large text. People will be seeing this while in motion (i.e., driving or walking by). So eye catching graphics and straight to the point messages are essential.

They can also be used indoors if the place has high traffic. These include cafeterias and trade shows. They are very useful for grabbing people’s attention.

Custom Built Postershere are now printing services that can print posters tailored to your specifications. It is true desktop printers can produce high quality posters. But if you need to print in a large size, the printer probably won’t be able to handle it. The printing services can also use very specific color sets i.e., RGB, CMYK etc). You just have to specify what you want.

What we have completed so far

This is a video of what we have completed so far.
We have finished our sub tasks which are a poster to be advertised into a magazine or as a film poster would be shown, and a double page magazine spread.
Our Magazine is to be shown in Empire magazine therefore we researched into how they produce their magazines, for example they do not always have The name clear, this is because it is a well known magazine therefore they do not have to show it as people already know what magazine it is and what it is about.
After we had completed a first draft or our magazine review, we exhibited it to people of our target audience and asked them how we could improve our magazine. However we also had to think about the conventions of a poster and how Empire magazine conveys their layout, which means this would not allows us to change everything as it has to be arranged a certain way.
When getting the feedback the majority of people had the same comments. these were to change the font and the size of the Title.
For our poster, we came up with three different posters and will decide which one we shall use, The poster is very simplistic as on average a person only looks at a poster for 20 seconds. this means you need to tell them all of the information and get them to remember the film in that amount of time.

Our Actors

These are some photos of the Actors we are using. this was to seee if they were able to be confident infromt of a camera, we also made some screen tests these are shown below.

Making the magazine review

Making the Magazine we used Adobe illustrator. Using this means we were able to control the size of our work. When starting our magazine i researched the different sizes of a magazine review and we created ours as the standard size of 8 by 11.
we also discussed what would look better in the review, who we should interview,

I researched the different magazines we could exhibit our review in and decided the best one would be Empire, this was because its a well known magazine. however it does not publish reviews for short films. Because of this we thought it could be under a sub section called up and coming, this would be where there are reviews of all new films short and long.

After finishing the review, we decided to get some feed back from people of our target audience. The feedback received was;
For the title of the review to be in the middle of the spread
The texts boxes to be closer together.
The title to be in a different font.

One person commented that the font was too small. however the size we used is the standard size in a magazine review.
However after this, we changed the review to fit the viewers opinions more.

Where is our review going?

From looking at magazines we have decided that our review could be in Empire magazine. This magazine is usually for Films that are mainstream. However there is occasionally a little section about other films and competitions, the last competition was about short film making and the winner got their film showed.
I think that we should have our magazine review could be in a section called up and comming, it will focus on the independant films and other unknown directors.

Camera angles

Here is a list of the different camera angles we plan to use in our film.

when there is a conversation between the characters. we are going to have a shot reverse shot. therefore you will be able to see and hear both sides of the converstaion.

We are also going to have a pan shot of the location across the rooms.

There will be A lot of close ups of the Actors, this way you will be able to see al emotion on thier faces.

We are also using Wide angles and then slowly zooming in to show the location where the actor is but also then a close up to show emotion.

Shot script

Lewis has uploaded the shot script onto his blog.

http://www.a2medialewissurridge.blogspot.com/

We made the shot script to make it easier when filming, this will allow us to see what camera angles

Roles allocated

Making sure we have enough time to complete everything, we have given ourselves roles in which we will have to fulfill in order to complete our short film, Poster and magazine review. We have decided that we would make an ancillary task each but we would help each other out.

We decided that We wouold share all of the responsibilities, therefore we would both film, direct, decide the costume and location and also write the script.

We created some storyboards which lewis has uploaded onto his blog this is a link.
www.A2medialewissurridge.blogspot.com

Serial Mom

Serial mom is about a housewife that turns into a serial killer. The film starts off with the family having a normal breakfast. Everything looks perfect then police comes round to say that a neighbour is being harrised and asked if they know anything about it. you later find out that its the mum harrising the neighbour every morning she rings her us and shouts ause at her, we find out that this started because the neighbour took her parking space at a shopping car park. from then on you see her kill people for simple things.

What type of audience

from looking at the different effects models, i feel our audince would apply to the obstinate theory, this means the audience would work out their own views on the film, this means they might have different opinions on who is the 'villain'

Press complaints commission

We are creating a Magazine review for our short film. I decided to look into the organisation that sets the guidelines for a magazine review. The press complaints commission.

Like the Advertising standards authority these are just guidelines and not rules like the BBFC, this means that if people dont apply to these, they do not have the authority to prosecute however they are able to help those who want to complain and instruct them on how they can do so.

Another simularity to the ASA is that you also have to self regulate your magazine review.

Influences

For the short film we are creating we were influnced by the director Quentin Taranto. This is because when researching we realised that in some films he uses hyper reality when there are greusome scenes. for example in kill Bill she kills lots of people in a short period of time, the way she does this is over the top of reality. this is to disconnect the audience from the film and make them realise it is not real, therefore that could not happen to them. We liked this as this is a good way to show violence but not in a very serious way, the audience will be more inclined to just laugh then to take it seriously.

Advertising Standards Authority

For our poster we are creating I looked at the Advertising Standards Authority website, this will tell me the guidelines of what i am able to show or advertise in my poster. However unlike the BBFC these are not rules they are just guidelines, this means that they are not able to prosecute people. Although they do expect advertisers to self-regulate meaning the person creating the advert known what he or she should or shouldnt show in an advert but its their choice in how they make their advertisement.
Therefore when making our poster we will apply with the guidelines.
